Lets Nurture Screen

The Challenge

Let’s Nurture is a Moncton-based company that develops solutions using Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality. They are developing a Smart Mirror technology to transform the retail experience by offering a virtual solution for trying on clothing and accessories. The Smart Mirror is a five-foot monitor with sensors that allows customers to see what a product would look like on their body from all angles moving as they do. They can try new products on with just a (touchless) hand gesture and make purchases directly from the screen.

To create a state-of-the-art Smart Mirror solution, Let’s Nurture required research into the visual capabilities of generative AI. A GenAI solution to this problem would allow Let’s Nurture to accommodate larger clothing inventories more efficiently and decrease implementation costs for smaller retailers. Additionally, research was required to optimize camera angles on the Smart Mirror to improve the accuracy of their “perfect-fit” solution.

The Solution

不良研究所researcher Alexander LeBlanc conducted an extensive review of existing web and hardware-based virtual try-on solutions to identify similarities and conventions in their processes. Following this, he reviewed current AI-powered virtual try-on solutions, prioritizing efficient algorithms that provide accurate fit and detail retention in non-controlled settings. Finally, a deep dive on body measurements for dynamically fitting garments to users was conducted, yielding a list of current methods for providing accurate “masks” for AI use. Let’s Nurture therefore received detailed and up-to-date recommendations to inform their product development moving forward.

Project Funder

不良研究所received funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), which enabled Let’s Nurture to access research and innovation support from NBCC.

“The insights provided around relevant AI models, potential implementations, and competitive landscape analysis were valuable in shaping our next steps forward. This initiative helped me to clarify key directions and better understand the technical opportunities and challenges in this space. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and build upon this promising foundation.”
