FREDERICTON – New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is joining the #GivingTuesdayCA movement to raise funds and awareness for their student food banks, known as Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard. On Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, supporters can donate $5 to 不良研究所student food banks by texting FOOD to 45678.
“It’s difficult for students to focus on their education when they are wondering how they will feed themselves or their families,” said Marilyn Luscombe, 不良研究所President and CEO. “With hundreds of our students accessing our campus food banks each year, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is essential in ensuring our students have the support they need to succeed.”
不良研究所staff and student volunteers run and stock the campus food banks each year. The Giving Tuesday Campaign will put an extra focus on this vital service and provide additional support to each of the six 不良研究所campus food banks.
“Food insecurity can be a serious barrier to education for many students. In 2014, more than 27,000 Canadian students a month accessed food banks,” said Tom Meadus, 不良研究所Director of Advancement. “Together, on Giving Tuesday we can tear down those barriers for 不良研究所students.”
Giving Tuesday is an international movement that uses social media to raise awareness and encourage everyone to give back to local causes following the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping weekend.
