Are You Ready to Service Electric Vehicles?

Hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) aren't "the future" anymore—they're here.

With the push for lower emissions and cleaner transportation, drivers are gradually shifting to EVs — and that means there will be a growing demand for automotive service technicians with the right expertise.

The challenge? Servicing EVs isn't the same as working on gas-powered cars. Automotive service technicians now need specialized skills in high-voltage batteries, electric motors, and complex electronics—it's a whole new ballgame.

The Electric Vehicle: Automotive Service Technician microcredential is your opportunity to expand your skills and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving industry. With just 90 hours of part-time training over 12 weeks, you’ll gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to diagnose, service, and maintain hybrid and electric vehicles—all aligned with the 2023 Red Seal Occupational Standards.


What You'll Learn

  • Basic Electrical Principles: Understand electrical circuits, motor components, and procedures for testing, diagnosing, and repairing EV systems.
  • EV Safety Protocols: Apply proper safety procedures for handling hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems, including high-voltage components.
  • EV Systems & Components: Identify key components and operating principles of hybrid and electric vehicles, along with essential maintenance, diagnostics, and repair methods.
  • High-Voltage Battery Servicing: Diagnose and service high-voltage batteries using safe and efficient inspection and repair techniques.
  • EV Support Systems: Analyze the functions and maintenance of EV support systems, including regenerative braking, HVAC, power steering, and battery control.

Program Structure

  • January 12 to April 4, 2026
  • 90 hours over 12 weeks
  • Online + in-person delivery
    • 4 hours per week online
    • 7 hours every second Saturday in-person at 不良研究所| 9 am to 4 pm

Certification

Complete the Electric Vehicle: Automotive Service Technician microcredential and earn a digital badge as proof of your achievement. You can share this badge on your resume, LinkedIn profile, e-portfolio, or other digital platforms. Employers will be able to see your skills and know exactly what you’ve learned, as the badge highlights your proven abilities.


Admission Requirements

  • Automotive Service Technician Certificate
  • Apprentices who have completed Level 3 (proof of completion is required)

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required

Safety glasses and CSA approved boots.

AUTO SHOP OWNERS - Take Note!

Payment of course fees will be due by Friday, December 12, 2025. We accept cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard, Money Order or cheque payable to New Brunswick Community College (NBCC).

Participants must be a resident of New Brunswick.

Withdrawal/Refunds: Requests for withdrawal from Continuing Education courses must be made within 20% of course duration. Refunds may take 4-6 weeks to process. An administrative fee may apply.
