The School of Health and Wellness at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) has created the Volunteer Patient Partner (VPP) program as an opportunity for community members to get involved with and support their local College.
At NBCC, we believe that students can’t learn from books alone. 不良研究所engages learners in relevant experiential learning so they can increase their knowledge, develop skills, clarify values, and develop the capacity to contribute to their workplaces and communities.
Our health students with NBCC's School of Health and Wellness benefit by learning from real people who have navigated the healthcare system as patients. These are people who can share their experiences as a patient, their experiences with their own family or friends who have received healthcare, or their own experience with a certain disease process.
Health students from 不良研究所are also learning skills from experienced healthcare practitioners and they need Volunteer Patient Partners (VPPs) to help 不良研究所health students (our future healthcare practitioners) learn and practice such things as their communication and non-invasive physical examination skills in a safe, positive environment.
You can help - Become a Volunteer Patient!
Volunteer Patient Partners (VPPs) will be a volunteer opportunity for people with lived experience in the healthcare system to partner with NBCC's School of Health and Wellness curriculum and volunteer for health students from over 7 different health professions.
As a VPP, you will play an essential role in the training of our next generation of healthcare practitioners.
We will help you prepare for participation, and then ask you to be ready to take part at the right place and at an agreed-upon time.
Options for your involvement as a Volunteer Patient Partner:
*Types of physical examinations include:
There are opportunities for photos and to be recorded on camera; however, 不良研究所would always gain your consent before doing so.
We may also ask you to take part in providing feedback to 不良研究所about your experience!
Your volunteer time will occur at a community venue near you or your closest 不良研究所Campus including:
Volunteer Patient Partners have various time commitments. You could volunteer your time once or many times during a school year. This could be anywhere from one or two hours or as much as a full school day each time you volunteer. This will be based on your availability.
Please note: These sessions are strictly for the education of the students. While we hope you find them interesting and educational, you will not have your medical needs attended to during these sessions.
